Grade: Level 3
Job purpose:
Under the direction of an Auditor, the Assistant Auditor will be responsible for carrying out audit assignments as identified in the forward staff allocation plan.
Supervision: None
Job outline:
1. Assist in carrying out External, Internal and Value for Money audit assignments through the timely completion of designated audit tasks.
2. Prepare working papers recording the results of the designated audit tasks – understanding the principles and reasoning for the work to be able to highlight exceptions and weaknesses found, or recommend further work that may yield results.
3. Work as a Member of the overall assignment team – offering flexibility where necessary - to help bring the work in on time and to the required quality level.
4. Any other duties required in the operation of the Department.

Qualifications and experience:
The individual must possess these skills and abilities, or explain and demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.
The Assistant Auditor is required to have:
a) achieved good GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics and also Accounting
or Business Studies or equivalent;
b) some general clerical experience;
The Assistant Auditor is preferred to have achieved:
a) At least 18 months of recent experience in the fields of audit or finance.
b) the Introductory Level of Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) or equivalent.
Person Specification:
Knowledge
• Basic awareness of accounting fundamentals and government and commercial
finance,
• Basic awareness of current audit procedures.
Skills / Aptitude
• Analytical skills and a problem solving, enquiring mind
• Communication skills
• Ability to prioritise work, reliable under pressure.
• Computer literacy with basic Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Word
and Outlook
Qualifications / Training
• Required: A good GCSE grade or equivalent in English and Mathematics

• Desirable: The Introductory Level of Certified Accounting Technician
(CAT) or equivalent).
